TEACHING FACTORS THAT AFFECT STUDENTS’ LEARNING MOTIVATION: BANGLADESHI EFL STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS

Research literature consistently suggests that EFL (English as a foreign language) students’ motivation is affected by some teaching factors (Falout et al., 2009; Kim 2018; Lamb, 2017). The main purpose of this study to identify exactly which adversely affect English at higher secondary (HS) level (grade 11 and 12) in Bangladeshi context. To collect qualitative data an interview protocol was developed based on the identified selected studies conducted Asian contexts (Kikuchi, Sakai & Kikuchi, Trang Baldauf, 2007; Quadir, A total number 40 grade 12 completers were interviewed perceptions. Miles Huberman’s (1994) analysis procedure applied analyze data. From five distinct factors, motivation, are descending order: teachers’ instructional styles method, private tutoring, personality behavior, competence classroom management, attitude commitment. Most these comprise further sub-components detect underlying sources disinterest. For amelioration situations feasible implications discussed addressing factors.
